So very moved by this piece. Even the meager offerings Hilde had and looked forward to were shattered to bits in the blink of an eye. So concerned we are heading down the same path. Greedy billionaires playing fast and loose with our economy, government structure, and freedoms will not end well for us. Thank you for sharing this story. The imagery will stay with me.
Chris Andrews: As one would concisely say in German, "Respekt!"
Thank you for sharing poetry in a beautiful prose narrative.
My feelings are so deep in reading this, that I don't want to spoil them with words. You are an artist, whose work I love, and whom I deeply honor and respect.
Beautifully written, atmospheric and such an emotive connection with the time, even within a relatively short piece, providing a sense of the futility of the war, the delusion of the soldiers in the earlier part of the war and even the fate of the Jews.
If I didn't know that envy is a negative emotion I would envy the ability to narrate this way.
Chris Andrews: Roger Hawcroft, David Holzman: "Parallels" do exist.
But what makes this narrative ring is deep humanity, a person in her full human, unknowing flaws and in her natural inner beauty and strength so conveyed that we are sympathetically in her mind.
Very fine art at a high level of empathic conviction.
I envy her narration too Roger!
Indeed, very many parallels. We really are tempting fate! 😢
Tragically beautiful, Chris.

Thank you Steve.

I second this comment.

Thank you Roger. My hope is that people will feel the parallels with what is happening here. It is similar in so many ways.
